Agreement on fee reductions for EC Community Trade Mark

The European Commission and the representatives of the Member States in the Fees Committee approved a 40% reduction in the fees for Community Trade Mark registration.

According to the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market OHIM press release, "the registration fee will be set at zero, and there will be a small offsetting increase in the application fee. The effect of this will be to simplify the process, with a single fee of 1050 EURO for a CTM applied for by fax or paper, and 900 EURO for an electronically filed CTM. The new fee for an application filed via the Madrid Protocol will be 870 EURO ". These fee reductions are specifically meant to benefit small and medium enterprises.

Within a few weeks, the draft Regulation will be prepared for adoption by the Commission. The fee reductions will take effect the day after publication in the Official Journal.
