EURid announces start of EU-Domain for 7.12.05

EURid, the European Registry of Internet Domain Names has announced the launch of the domain name .eu for 7 December 2005.

The launch of the .eu-domain will happen in several phases.Firstly, a Sunrise period, divided into two phases, where public bodies and the holders of registered trademarks will have prior rights to register the domains for their names, and a Land rush period will take place. Phase I of Sunrise will start 7 December 2005. This phase will last for 2 months. Sunrise II will start 7 February 2006 and run for another two months. Open registrations (Land Rush), where registrations will be open to everyone, starts on 7 April 2006.

The EURid has also published the "Sunrise Rules", which are the description of technical and administrative measures that the Registry will use and apply within application procedure.
